Kilauea ("spewing" or "much spreading" in Hawaiian) is considered one of the most active volcanoes
in the world - much to the delight of visitors to the Big Island (Hawai'i Island). This "young" volcano
is also the home of the Hawaiian goddess, Pele.
At times, the lava flows about 30 miles to the Pacific Ocean resulting in a steamy inferno that
eventually produces the black sand found on nearby beaches. I was drawn to the beautiful interplay
of fire and water of the dramatic nighttime flows.
