It originally began as a way of utilizing smaller canvas leftovers;
now, I have a "system" for having canvas blanks ready at all times.
The faces are collected from family photos, interesting internet
finds and covert candids from around town. These are then prepped
as potential poses using PhotoShop.
The study is painted in anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours,
depending on the look I'm after. And these range from highly realistic
to very stylized studies. The idea is to experiment with a various tools
colors and techniques.
The studies are then trimmed to 6x8 inches and eventually collected into
the larger collages of anywhere from 4 to 9 studies. Additional painting
and highlights complete the process. As of May, 2012, I estimate that I've
done about 190 of these studies since I started last summer. In the future,
I'll put up some photographs of the procress, and how some of the individual
studies are made.
